Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description
A shield 2 7/8 inches 7.30 cm) in height and 2 1/4 inches (5.72 cm) in width overall within a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border, divided per chevron in point blue and red, in base a white five-pointed star, on a yellow chief two blue piles conjoined in point.

Symbolism
The chevron is symbolic of support while the five points of the star refer to the supply and service, maintenance, transportation, and other support functions of the Command.  The alternating blue and yellow colors are symbolic of unity of purpose and successful accomplishment of mission; together the seven blue and yellow areas refer to the Seventh Army and US Army Europe.  The color red is symbolic of action and leadership and white is for energy and wisdom.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally approved for the Seventh Army Support Command on 7 October 1966.  It was redesignated for the 7th Support Command and amended to revise the symbolism on 27 November 1978.   (TIOH Dwg. No. A-1-440)

Description
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of a white throwing axe (francisc) on a blue area within angles formed by a red chevron and two gold sword blades issuing from a single pommel and passing over the chevron all within a continuous red scroll arced at top and base, reversed and lined gold behind the sword blades and chevron and inscribed VANGUARD around the top and FOR SUPPORT around base in gold letters.

Symbolism
The chevron and swords, symbols of military leadership, are emblematic of the support and the overall mission and capabilities of the organization.  The dual blades and single pommel allude to the units service in the western and eastern areas of the world.  The axe is a symbol of victory for the allied army in Western Europe against an eastern invader.  The axe also connotes the numerical designation of the 7th Support Command.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 22 October 1979.
